The resigning Prime Minister did not seek to be reassuring in the face of anxious and angry Lebanese.

The words of Hassane Diab, this Saturday, sound like an observation of helplessness in a country in full decline.

The head of government spoke as the Lebanese let out their anger, for the fifth consecutive day, because of the worsening economic crisis and the vertiginous drop in the value of the pound against the dollar.

This depreciation directly affects what remains of the purchasing power of millions of Lebanese who can no longer meet their basic needs.

On Saturday, groups of angry protesters cut roads again with flaming tires and dumpsters across the country.

Hassane Diab called for the rapid formation of a "

competent government

" enjoying domestic political support and international support to lift the country out of the crisis.

He said he was prepared to stop rushing day-to-day business to back up political parties whose differences have prevented the formation of a new cabinet for seven months.
