Dongfeng self-driving taxi successfully "on the road" in Wuhan

Xinhua News Agency, Wuhan, February 27th. More than 40 Dongfeng self-driving taxis equipped with Beidou positioning system, 5G communication technology, and automatic sensing capabilities were successfully "on the road" in the "China Vehicle Valley" Wuhan Economic Development Zone on the 27th.

This is an important step towards exploring the commercial operation of autonomous vehicles.

According to reports, these self-driving taxis are based on Dongfeng Fengshen pure electric vehicles, equipped with high-definition cameras, lidars, millimeter-wave radars and other sensing equipment composed of environmental sensing systems, equipped with Beidou navigation and other high-precision positioning systems.

Using 5G communication technology, on-board supercomputers can quickly identify and respond to various complex traffic scenarios.

At present, these self-driving taxis are mainly put in the business district of Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone with a large number of people. There are more than 20 parking spots and more than 10 operating routes. Citizens can make reservations online and experience the ride for free.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Dongfeng Technology Center, in accordance with relevant laws and safety regulations, these autonomous taxis are equipped with safety officers.

Under normal circumstances, the safety officer will not touch the steering wheel, accelerator and brake pedals.

Only in emergencies, the safety officer will take the initiative to take over the vehicle to ensure driving safety.

On the morning of the 27th, the reporter scanned the code via WeChat and successfully booked a ride order from Dongfeng Technology Center to Dongfeng Group headquarters.

During the journey of more than 10 kilometers, vehicles encountered various traffic scenes such as meeting, turning, waiting for a red light, sudden braking of the vehicle in front, and going up and down viaducts. The vehicles were able to respond automatically and stably.

On ordinary roads, the speed can reach up to 40 kilometers per hour.

It is reported that in the next 2 to 3 years, Dongfeng Company will put more than 200 autonomous driving taxis in Wuhan Economic Development Zone, and promote the integrated development of autonomous driving and smart cities through large-scale demonstration operations.
