Felipe VI presided over this Friday, February 26, the delivery of the IV National SME of the Year Award.
An event organized by Banco Santander and by the Chamber of Commerce that has had
the presence of the King
for the
first time,
something that all the representatives of the sector summoned in the delivery have thanked.
But the Monarch has not limited itself to supporting small and medium-sized companies in Spain with its presence, which this year have been so hit by the covid crisis, with losses of 20% in sales and 10% of workers.
Don Felipe has taken the floor to
demand aid
for Spanish SMEs.
"As you well know here - and it is good to remember - SMEs
represent no less than 99% of the productive fabric
and 66% of employment in Spain, figures that speak for themselves", recalled the King.
"The great network and thermometer of our economy that make up the SMEs is, consequently, a true backbone of our society. Therefore,
ensuring that your activity can be carried out in the best possible conditions is always necessary,
and this is especially important when we have to overcome this crisis that the covid-19 pandemic has generated; before which, naturally, the first thing has been to
address the health emergency
".
After these words, the King acknowledged that 2020 "has been
a particularly tough year
for most of your companies" and stressed that the efforts of businessmen "have allowed us to
maintain a thread of hope
, which we wish to continue growing every day with trust and solidarity as this crisis and its most serious consequences are overcome ".
The King also remembered "all the men and women who
each day look to the next without giving up in the face of adversity
and are employed to raise their families, their employees, their businesses ... and the entire nation."
Don Felipe believes that "we are facing a historic opportunity to transform the economy through three levers of change such as digitization, ecological transition and training."
For this reason he has claimed: "I do not want to stop highlighting and insisting on
the importance of a fruitful public-private collaboration
in which companies, institutions and public powers join forces and combine capacities from their respective fields of action".
