Delivery workers and surrogate drivers are usually assigned work through smartphone apps.

These people are often referred to as'platform workers' and are currently estimated at 220,000.

Most of them are in private business status, so even if they contract and work with a business, they are not subject to the labor law.

First, reporter Hyung-Woo Jeon became a delivery worker who signed a contract with a company, so we found out what difficulties he faced.

<Reporter> I applied

for a delivery engineer of a platform company.

After verifying my identity, I submitted an application on the homepage, and three days later, I received a call for approval.

You can freely deliver within 20 hours a week by tapping the start guide in the app.

I will try delivery using the platform app myself.

Lunch time, the first delivery has been assigned.

[Six minutes later, it comes out by (restaurant) pick-up, but it's a little far away, so it's tight.] I

got 7 bowls of Sundae-guk from the restaurant, and

I

have to deliver it to the office about 1km away.

[(Be careful because these are two.) Yes,

it costs 68,000

won, right?] The

estimated delivery completion time is displayed in real time, which makes my mind rush.

It's not easy to carry food and run, but the app doesn't even take that into account.

Eventually the app arrived 5 minutes later than expected.

You can decline an assigned delivery, but if the rejection is repeated, your score will drop.

If the rating is below the standard, the platform company blocks access to the app and you can no longer work.

[Park Jung-hoon/Chairman of Rider Union: We do not have information on how many calls should be rejected or how many badly rated app access rights will disappear.] In the

contract, the platform company decides the work content and delivery fee system and evaluates it. Direct penalties are also given.

Therefore, it is correct to see the labor community as a definite worker, not an individual entrepreneur.

Last year, the government identified 220,000 platform workers.

It was found that half of them started work last year when Corona 19 began.
