Most public financial aid is limited in time, and a support system that has been in place for more than fifteen years may disappear due to a change in government policy.

Fortunately, a number of programs that have proven to be useful are periodically extended.

This is the case of the tax credit for home adaptation work.

Coping with the loss of autonomy

Between a lack of safety equipment in the bathroom, a slippery floor covering and sinks at the wrong height, the simplest household tasks can quickly turn into a nightmare when you find yourself in a situation of loss of autonomy due to illness, accident or age.

To prevent your family home from turning into a prison or a dangerous environment, adapting the premises is sometimes essential but costly.

The State helps to settle the bill through various mechanisms, including the personalized autonomy allowance (APA), the "Easy living" program of the National Housing Agency (Anah), or the support granted by pension insurance.

In the same vein, a specific tax credit was put in place in 2005 (and completed in 2018) in order to take into account the cost of this adaptation work.

While this tax rebate expired on December 31, 2020, the finance law for 2021 extended it until the end of 2023.

Targeted equipment

This boost concerns all free owners, tenants and occupants who need to make their main home more accessible.

Therefore, it is necessary to justify a situation of loss of autonomy to benefit from it.

Eligible are people receiving a disability pension of at least 40%, those who have an inclusion mobility card, as well as seniors receiving APA.

Likewise, this tax credit targets certain accessibility equipment such as the installation of an extra-flat shower tray and a shower door, electric roller shutters, non-slip flooring or doors. sliding.

We should also mention the control systems for motion detectors (for falls) and other electrical installations, as well as the installation of valves for people with reduced mobility.

In addition, certain accessibility works give rise to the same tax advantage, without you having to be elderly or disabled yourself (if you are a landlord for example).

This is the case for the installation of height-adjustable sinks, washbasins and furniture, wall-mounted shower seats, toilets.

raised but also ramps and safety handles.

5,000 euros maximum

Provided you install the equipment referred to by a professional, you can deduct 25% of the total invoice (including labor) from your income tax, up to a limit of 5,000 euros for a single person and 10,000 euros for a married or civil partnership.

The ceiling is also increased by 400 euros per dependent.

And if the amount of your tax is ultimately less than the tax credit, the Public Treasury will refund the difference to you.

Please note, however, that this envelope is set for a period of five consecutive years and is part of the overall ceiling which prevents taxpayers from accumulating several tax advantages beyond 10,000 euros per year.

Check with the professional beforehand and contact your tax office to verify that your project fits well.
