The German economy is crunching like never before.

Daimler had to throttle its production in Bremen and Rastatt, Audi and Volkswagen are putting shifts in their plants in Neckarsulm, Ingolstadt, Emden and Wolfsburg - because they cannot import enough chips for their car production.

The sound also gets rougher.

VW accuses its suppliers of bad planning because they too are affected by the lack of chips.

The German economy is largely at the mercy of foreign technology producers.
