When Apple launched the first iPad in 2010, Christian Hanster was still in high school.

“At that time we had to go into a computer room to watch YouTube videos, it took a lot of effort,” says Hanster in an interview with “Gründerszene”.

Thereupon committed

he joined a study group that fought to install WiFi in some classrooms.

With success: the high school acquired the necessary hardware with the help of the friends' association.

The idea for his start-up Endoo, which he founded during his studies, arose from his commitment to school in 2014.

Endoo equips schools with WiFi.

The company takes care of the planning, implementation and maintenance of the networks, all geared towards the needs of the schools.

For example, teachers can specifically control Internet sharing in class.

In the event of problems, teachers should receive support from a digital system administrator by phone.

The start-up also offers training courses to familiarize all users with the system.

The costs that arise for educational institutions vary and depend, among other things, on the number of rooms that are to have WiFi.

The WLAN costs between 300-500 euros per classroom including service support for five years.

The start-up currently supplies almost 50 schools with the Internet.

The founder does not want to comment on how much turnover the company makes.

For years, the start-up has financed itself and kept

afloat

with the current income

,

says Hanster.

Last year, the Münster-based start-up received a mid-six-figure amount in a seed round.

Among others, two managers of the beverage supplier Bottle Mail, Stephen Weich and Julian Pachta, have invested.

The Münster-based Company Builder 1648 Factory and other business angels also took part.

With the financial injection, the start-up now wants to grow in order to network more schools.

Hanster also wants to expand its team - the company currently has eight employees.

The business informatics graduate Hanster has already noticed that it takes a little longer with growth: “In schools, you need staying power.” On average, around 1.5 years passed from the first contact to the WLAN installation in the school buildings, says the founder .

Too many responsibilities and no central contact points: That makes working together complicated.

An example: The respective municipalities are responsible for the physical equipment of the schools, but the state politicians are responsible for the specific use of digital content.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, there has been a greater awareness of the lack of digitization in schools, says Hanster.

For this reason, Endoo has teamed up with the start-up Sdui, founded in 2018, a digital platform that is intended to simplify the exchange between teachers and students.

Soon the WLAN access of the people of Münster will also be controlled via the Sdui app.
