  • The association Produced in Brittany conducted a study on the potential for relocation in the region.

  • She estimates that 130,000 jobs could be created with a potential of five billion euros.

  • The sectors of industry and tourism are privileged.

They describe this study as “a base”, a project “yet to be refined”.

But they believe it.

The thinking heads of the Product in Brittany association have just made public their survey conducted by the firm Goodwill Management.

Called “Reloc'h”, this study aimed to analyze the possibilities of relocating jobs in Brittany.

The results make all local elected officials green with envy.

According to this study, more than 130,000 jobs are likely to "come back" to the country, or 6% of the working population.

A huge potential that the cabinet estimated at five billion euros of GDP.

To obtain these figures, the firm carried out a macroeconomic study based on data from INSEE, customs, sectoral studies carried out by Bretagne Développement Innovation or by France Stratégie.

It also carried out a field survey with local players such as Naval Group, the Le Graët, Hénaff or BA Systèmes groups.

“We know that relocations have hurt France and Brittany.

But we see that for ten years, we have been on a plateau and that it is balanced.

There are undoubtedly reflections to be carried out to relocate certain sectors ”, estimates Loïc Hénaff, president of Product in Brittany and owner of the Finistère company famous for its pâté.

"Products that we consume and that we import"

The first sector to focus on would be industry.

According to the association's officials, a big catch-up could be made in sectors such as aeronautics, waste treatment or plastics.

“These are products that we consume and that we import.

For waste, it's the same, we should be able to recover it on site and thus prevent it from leaving by truck, ”says Malo Bouëssel du Bourg.

The director of the structure is also thinking of the renewable energy sector, where the region is struggling to exist, while it will be one of the first to welcome offshore wind turbines.

The survey estimates that 30,000 jobs could be created in this sector.

These avenues for reflection, Produced in Brittany hopes to see them spread in the minds of the bosses of its 472 members.

From small associative structures to agri-food giants like Lactalis, Savéol to large-scale distribution with Intermarché, including the materials factory in Quéguiner, the association knows that it will have to whip to pursue its relocation dream.

And above all, be patient.

“This study is not there to meet urgent needs.

You have to be aware that relocating a sector of activity can take ten years.

We are only the instigators of this investigation, it is up to the decision-makers to seize it ”, warns Malo Bouëssel du Bourg.

Tourism, the future pillar?

In its conclusions, the association also relies on the development of the regional tourist economy.

Boosted by the trend towards green travel and the boom in cycle paths, Brittany could be the big winner of this “slow tourism”.

This pillar of the economy could create 20,000 new jobs according to Product in Brittany.

But before thinking bigger, should we not succeed in filling all the current seasonal positions?

The question is on the table.
