Three payments per day!

The frequency of mobile payments continues to increase

China UnionPay recently released the "2020 Mobile Payment Security Survey Report", which is the 14th consecutive year that China UnionPay has worked with commercial banks and payment institutions to track and investigate the security behaviors of Chinese consumers in mobile payments.

The report shows that with the continuous development of information technology, mobile payment has penetrated into all areas of life. 98% of respondents regard mobile payment as their most commonly used payment method, an increase of 5 percentage points from last year.

Among them, QR code payment users accounted for 85%, an increase of 6 percentage points compared with 2019.

"The convenience of mobile payment has been the primary consideration for respondents when they choose mobile payment for three consecutive years, followed by habitual use, discounts, and promotional activities. Mobile payment has gradually penetrated into the daily lives of the people." Senior Director, Risk Control Department, China UnionPay Wang Yu said.

In terms of the frequency of mobile payment, the report shows that three payments per day are the average level of mobile payments in 2020. The proportion of payment frequency exceeding 3 times has increased by 11% compared with 2019, and the proportion of more than 5 times accounts for 1/4 of the total population. "Post-95" is the main force of high-frequency payment.

Wang Yu said that the epidemic has stimulated new business formats and models, and more offline payment scenarios have migrated and extended to more consumption scenarios such as webcasting and medical payment.

The report shows that 30% of respondents will often use webcast to shop.

Emerging online payment platforms are organically integrated with offline, small vendors, vegetable farms, fruit shops and other small physical stores. They are favored by residents during the epidemic and become an indispensable part of residents' daily lives.

In terms of mobile payment security, the report shows that 98% of respondents believe that mobile payment is safe.

However, only 28% of all respondents think that their self-protection ability is very good, and more respondents think that their self-protection ability is only good or fair.

"The public recognizes the security of mobile payment, but the ability to protect themselves is insufficient, and there is room for improvement in security awareness." Wang Yu said that the report shows that most people believe that the security measures are relatively weak, especially for the elderly and low income The payment verification method used by the group is single, and there are many unsafe mobile payment behaviors.
