The FDP is calling for companies that are largely closed during the lockdown to be more consistently exempt from the license fee.

"It is not acceptable that even restaurants cannot be exempted from GEZ fees that can only prepare food to go due to the lockdown and are otherwise not allowed to receive guests," says Gerald Ullrich (FDP), member of the Bundestag's economic committee .

Companies affected by the lockdown can obtain license exemption if they have to close for 90 days due to government orders.

The 90 days do not have to be consecutive;

all closing days can be added together.

However, this only applies if companies are completely closed.

In the case of restricted operation, e.g. sales outside the home, the fees must continue to be paid.

“At the moment, the possibility of exemption from fees is so strict that only very few companies can make use of it,” says Ullrich.

"But if companies could be exempt from broadcasting fees more easily, they don't need to be reimbursed afterwards."

The broadcasting fees are recognized as reimbursable fixed costs for Bridging Aid III, which run from December 2020 to June 2021.

This emerges from the response of the federal government to a request from Ullrich, which WELT AM SONNTAG has received.

This means that 40 to 90 percent will be reimbursed depending on the drop in sales.
