Qualcomm strengthens its positions in France.

The American giant of electronic components for mobile devices has just announced the opening of a new research and development center dedicated to 5G "in order to work on the future evolution" of the latest generation mobile network.

This new center, which integrates a network of already existing R & D centers, notably in Sophia Antipolis, will be located in Lannion (Côtes-d'Armor) and Issy-Les-Moulineaux in the Paris region.

"Qualcomm has worked with the French government to strengthen Lannion's position as a leading telecommunications engineering hub and retain talent and preserve technological expertise in this field," said the American company in a statement.

A pool of jobs hard hit by Nokia's social plan

This announcement comes a month after the State's decision to support the project of the technological research institute b-com aiming to "develop a sovereign offer for private 5G networks", by providing funding of 30 million euros over seven years.

This support should make it possible to create "up to 90 jobs, of which 80 to 90% will be permanently located in Lannion", a pool of jobs hit hard by the social plan of the Finnish telecoms equipment manufacturer Nokia, which provides for more of 900 job cuts.

"I am delighted by this excellent news which once again strengthens the French ecosystem in the field of telecommunications, in particular in Lannion", commented Minister Delegate for Industry Agnès Pannier-Runacher.
