The year 2020 ended better than it started on the unemployment front in France.

In the fourth quarter of 2020, the Dares indicates that the unemployment rate (category A) fell by 2.7%.

On the other hand, over the whole of last year, unemployment, still in category A, increased by 7.5%.

The world economy, and France, was hit in 2020 by the coronavirus epidemic, and the various lockdowns which largely paralyzed the country's economy for weeks.

We will know on Friday the extent of the disaster in 2020 with the first estimate of INSEE on the recession.

The Institute expects to see nearly 700,000 job losses over the past year in France.
