From tomorrow (27th), the government temporarily exempts import duties of eggs and processed eggs.

At today's cabinet meeting, the government voted to amend the quota tariff rule, which cuts the basic 8-30% tariff rate applied to imports of eggs and processed egg products to 0% by June 30th.

From tomorrow, when the amendment is published in the official gazette, goods declared for import are exempt from customs duties.

Items subject to no tariffs are 50,000 tons of 8 egg items (fresh eggs, smoked eggs, yolk meal, yolk frozen, dry whole eggs, frozen whole eggs, egg white meal, and frozen egg white).

Among them, fresh eggs are 14,500 tons and egg products are 35,000 tons.

The government announced that it has decided on tariff-free imports in consideration of the domestic supply and demand situation, such as a 26% increase in consumer prices for eggs due to the recent spread of avian influenza (AI).

Currently, Korea can import eggs from New Zealand, Spain, the United States and Thailand.
