For several years, the DeLorean Motor Company has wanted to revive the legendary DMC-12 model that appears in the
Back to the Future
saga
.
In a post published on Wednesday January 20, the company mentioned the idea of designing a 100% electric DeLorean, reports
Numerama
.
“The engine we wanted to use in 2015 met emission standards until 2022,” the company explained.
Except that the start of production planned for 2017 was delayed by several years.
Indeed, a law that aimed to allow small businesses to market replicas of old cars took longer than expected to come into force.
The #DeLorean turns 40 years today!
This pic was shot on January 21st, 1981, when the first DMC-12 was produced ... what a better way to celebrate an icon of automotive history than a sneak peek of the (near) future?

An engine authorized until 2024
Now that the DeLorean Motor Company will be able to restart production, the question of the engine has arisen.
“It looks like this engine can now be used until 2024, but building a car with an engine this close to the end of its life doesn't seem like a good idea,” officials said.
A 100% electric DeLorean would therefore now be preferred.
According to the company, this would be a simpler solution than "finding a combustion engine that meets current environmental standards."
