MediaMarkt, a leading consumer electronics company, has signed an agreement with Worten to purchase practically all of its business in Spain.
Specifically,
it will keep 17 of its stores, but the staff
of the same, of about 270 people, will
be preserved
and the premises will be maintained.
These stores are expected to start operating under the new brand in the first quarter of this year, when it is authorized by Competition.
After the closing of the operation, MediaMarkt has 7,000 employees in our country and 106 physical stores, increasing its commercial area by 8%.
Worten dragged heavy losses since its arrival in the Spanish market.
With the signing of this agreement,
"MediaMarkt strengthens its commitment to make technology available to its customers,
expanding the network of convenience stores to reach places where it was not present before," according to a statement.
The agreement will
reinforce the chain's presence in Catalonia, where it will have another seven stores, and Andalusia
, with four.
It will also land in Melilla, Zamora and Marbella, cities where it was not now.
Mediamarkt
wants these new stores to help boost online sales
by having more delivery points.
This operation "fits perfectly with our strategic objectives of being the first option as a trusted business for tailor-made solutions in a world driven by technology", declares Alberto Álvarez Ayuso, General Managing Director of MediaMarkt Iberia.
