Citroën C5 Aircross Hybrid -

DR

Launched shortly before the summer, the C5 Aircross Hybrid kicked off electrification at Citroën, since confirmed by the launch of the 100% electric version of the C4.

And sorry if we seem to forget the brand's first steps in the field, since just about everyone has probably forgotten the… C-Zero.

We prefer to talk about a real departure today, because it comes in a more favorable context: that of a brand which has really taken full possession of its identity.

But beyond the CO2 hunt, the adoption of a plug-in hybrid mechanism by the C5 Aircross is fully in line with this identity.

We explain.

Comfort

If we say Citroën, you say… Comfort, bravo.

In recent years, more precisely since the new so-called "progressive hydraulic stop" suspensions became widespread in the French range, the manufacturer has regained its stripes in terms of comfort.

Whether it's the Cactus, the new C4 we were talking about a few weeks ago, or this C5 Aircross, all come standard with these suspensions, and all are unquestionably the most comfortable vehicles in their respective categories.

Citroën skilfully reminded us of this during the presentation of the hybrid version of its SUV, with a test route through paths where we meet more tractors than cars.

As on velvet ... It is not only thanks to the suspensions elsewhere, because as in the heyday of the DS, CX and others, the manufacturer has also rediscovered the art of making seats, large and soft, in which we feel good.

Now, in your opinion: what can hybridization do for this painting?

Hush!

The C5 Aircross therefore receives in turn the hybrid system already seen at Peugeot, Opel and DS.

It consists of a 1.6 petrol engine and an electric motor, all developing 225 hp and 360 Nm. The 13.2 kWh batteries promise a WLTP range of 55 km, and their charging time varies from 2 hours to WallBox at 7 o'clock on a simple domestic socket.

Thanks to them, the other WLTP figures are 1.4 l / 100 km and 32 gCO2 / km.

Finally, note that the installation of these batteries does not affect the family qualities of the vehicle, which retains its 3 independent rear seats, sliding and folding, and its trunk of at least 460 liters, a benchmark in the category of plug-in SUVs.

On the road, there is only one "bad" news: the real autonomy is rather 40-45 km, at least on our very hilly test route.

And it is true that we have seen systems of the kind that are more efficient in hybrid mode, so when the batteries are empty.

But despite this, we remember above all that the system drives home the point of comfort, since by definition, the electric mode is silent on board.

And suddenly, in this area, the C5 Aircross Hybrid outclasses all its competitors even further.

Isn't that what you expect from a Citroën?

The Citroën C5 Aircross Hybrid starts at € 42,930.
