The price of electricity in the wholesale market has risen again for tomorrow, Monday,

after a slight moderation

in the day today, due to higher electricity consumption that occurs on weekdays, although below the

second highest figure of the story

reached last Friday.

The Government insists that this rise is "temporary" and has discharged all responsibility in Competition, which has been commissioned to monitor the market.

The vice president of Economic Transition,

Teresa Ribera

, has asked that "alarmism" not be done with these increases, because in the receipt "they are only a few euros".

According to data from the Iberian Electricity Market Operator (OMIE), the average price of electricity for this Monday is 82.45 euros / MWh,

24.4% higher than this Sunday (66.27 euros)

and a 2.2% compared to Saturday (80.66 euros), but 13.2% lower than Friday (94.99 euros).

Monday's price will move between a maximum of 121.14 euros / MWh

between 9 and 10 p.m.

and a minimum of 46.36 euros / MWh, between 5 and 6 in the morning.

The prices of electricity in the wholesale market continue to rise in the midst of the cold wave and if the price for tomorrow is compared with the Monday of the previous week, January 4, in which it marked 59.85 euros / MWh, it is u

n 37.8% higher

.

The average price of electricity in the wholesale market (where prices are negotiated one day in advance) stood for last Friday at 94.99 euros / MWh, the second highest in history after 103.76 euros which marked January 11, 2002, reports Efe.

These increases occur after in 2020, the year of the coronavirus pandemic, with house confinements and strong restrictions on activity, the average price of electricity in the wholesale market closed at 33.96 euros / MWh, the cheapest since 2004, sixteen years earlier.

The price of electricity in the wholesale market affects the electricity bill of consumers covered by the regulated tariff or Small Consumer Voluntary Price (PVPC), in which it has a weight of 35%.

This rate is the one that, among others, the consumers who benefit from the social bonus have, a discount on the electricity bill for households defined as vulnerable.
