Honda has found this month that it will reduce domestic car production by about 4,000.

The global shortage of semiconductors has made it difficult to procure for automobiles, which could have an impact on other automakers.

According to Honda, it is the passenger car "Fit" produced at Suzuka Factory in Mie Prefecture that will reduce production.

Regarding the reason, the company says that it is because semiconductors for cars are running out, procurement has become difficult and logistics are confused, and this month alone it is about 4000 units less than the original plan.

It accounts for about 0.1% of Honda's global production in the last year, and may be affected after next month.

In the global semiconductor market, demand for high-speed, large-capacity communication standards, 5G-related products, and personal computer-related products is increasing due to the spread of telework since the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Furthermore, even in Japan, the Asahi Kasei Group's factory in Nobeoka City, Miyazaki Prefecture, was unable to produce semiconductors due to the fire in October last year, which is said to be a factor that tightens supply and demand.

Overseas manufacturers have also announced that they will reduce production after January due to a shortage of semiconductors, and the impact of the semiconductor shortage may spread to the production of other automobile manufacturers.
