CCTV News:

It is reported that the lowest temperature in Beijing this morning (January 7) was -19.6°C, which was the lowest temperature since 1966. Due to the weather, the heating power load increased.

According to data from Beijing Power Grid, the electricity load in Beijing hit a record high on the evening of the 6th.

At 20:22 on the evening of the 6th, the electricity load of the Beijing Power Grid reached 24.51 million kilowatts, setting a record of 23.56 million kilowatts in the summer of 2018, setting a record high. It is also the first time that the maximum load in Beijing in winter exceeds summer in nearly 20 years.

Bai Jing, director of the State Grid Beijing Electric Power Control Center:

The main reason for the sharp increase in the load this time is that it is affected by the

extreme

cold weather, the temperature drop is relatively large, the duration is long, and the residents' electric heating load is concentrated release.

Through our calculations, during the heavy load period, the electric heating load accounted for 48.2%, which also shows that the urban power supply characteristics of Beijing's clean electric heating are becoming more and more obvious.

At present, the Beijing power grid is operating smoothly and has sufficient supply to meet the city's power supply needs.
