"Mitsubishi Aircraft" has announced that the contract for 20 domestically produced passenger jets, "Mitsubishi Space Jet," has been canceled with an American leasing company.

This will be the first contract cancellation since the decision to significantly reduce the development system of Mitsubishi Space Jet.

According to Mitsubishi Aircraft, the contract for 20 aircraft ordered from the American leasing company "Aero Lease" for the development "Mitsubishi Space Jet" has been cancelled.

Regarding "Space Jet," Mitsubishi Aircraft's parent company, "Mitsubishi Heavy Industries," has indicated that it will significantly reduce development costs and systems, saying that demand cannot be expected to recover due to the effects of the new coronavirus.

Under these circumstances, when we discussed the contract with "Aero Lease", we could not predict the delivery time, so it was resolved.

This is the first time that the contract has been canceled since the development system was decided to be significantly reduced, and Mitsubishi Aircraft wants to wait for the full-scale resumption of development and negotiate for a re-contract.

With this contract cancellation, orders for Mitsubishi Space Jet, which had a maximum of 447 aircraft, will be reduced to 287 aircraft.

Takaoki Niwa, president of Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation, commented, "I have been a customer for many years and it was a very difficult decision, but I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the warm support so far."
