Caution is required as false information that'Chloroquine', a malaria treatment agent, can prevent and treat Corona 19 is being circulated through SNS.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said that chloroquine has not been proven to be effective in preventing and treating COVID-19, and it requires caution in its use.

Chloroquine is a specialty drug used to treat malaria, and in the first half of last year, Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, as well as the World Health Organization recommended that it not be used for the purpose of preventing and treating Corona 19.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration canceled the emergency use of chloroquine for the treatment of COVID-19 in June last year.

In addition, dexamethasone, an anti-inflammatory drug used in severely ill patients with Corona 19, may worsen the symptoms of infection due to its immunosuppressive action, so be sure to use it after consulting a doctor and getting prescriptions.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety warned, "Purchasing and using chloroquine and dexamethasone at a pharmacy without a prescription can cause serious side effects."
