Dubai received about 1.1 million international tourists between July and November 2020, recording more than 17.7 million hotel nights.

According to data from the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing in Dubai (Dubai Tourism), India topped the markets for international visitors to the emirate, within five months, with 286,000 visitors.

Dubai had opened its doors to international visitors, tourists and businessmen, starting from the seventh of last July, in light of the implementation of air travel protocols that facilitate the travel of UAE citizens, residents and tourists, while preserving the health and safety of visitors and communities.

Visitors and markets

In detail, data from the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing in Dubai (Dubai Tourism) showed that the emirate received more than 1.1 million international tourists, during the five months, between July and November 2020.

India came at the forefront of the markets for international visitors to Dubai during that period, registering more than 286 thousand visitors, followed by Pakistan with 96 thousand visitors, then Egypt with 72.5 thousand visitors, while the total number of visitors from the United Kingdom reached about 70.2 thousand visitors. Then France has 37.6 thousand visitors, and Kazakhstan has 34.6 thousand visitors.

The United States recorded more than 33 thousand visitors, while the Sudanese market came in eighth place with 27.6 thousand visitors, compared to 26.2 and 25.2 thousand visitors from the Russian and Ethiopian markets, respectively.

Hotel rooms

According to the data that Emirates Today obtained a copy of, the number of hotel rooms in Dubai at the end of last November reached 120,206 hotel rooms, within 687 hotel establishments.

The luxurious five-star hotel rooms acquired 35% of the total volume of the hotel market in Dubai, after reaching 41,767 hotel rooms, out of 128 hotel facilities, followed by four-star rooms by 27%, registered 32,623 Hotel rooms, among 155 properties.

In turn, hotels classified between three stars and one star acquired about 17%, with a capacity of 20 thousand and 758 hotel rooms, within 219 hotel establishments, while the number of medium and luxury hotel apartments facilities reached 185 facilities, including 25 thousand and 58 apartments, with the acquisition of apartments on 21% of the total hotel capacity in Dubai.

Occupancy and yield

The occupancy rate in all hotel establishments in the emirate reached 52%, during the period between July and November last, where the average hotel apartments recorded the highest rate of 65%, compared to 62% for luxury apartments, followed by small and medium hotels from the one star to three star categories at a rate. 58%, while the four-star and five-star hotels achieved occupancy rates of 51 and 42%, for each, respectively.

The data showed an increase in the stay of guests to 4.2 hotel nights, while the number of reserved (rooms) nights reached 17.78 million nights, while the average daily price for a hotel room reached 329 dirhams, to record the return of available rooms about 172 dirhams.

Global markets

The South Asia region ranked first in terms of the source of visitors to Dubai, by geographical region, after it acquired 37% of the total number, followed by the Middle East and North Africa region, and the European market with 15% each.

Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States came fourth with 10% of the total number of visitors, while Africa scored about 8%, North and Southeast Asia 5%, and the Americas 5%, compared to 4% for the Arab Gulf states, and 1% for Australia.
