The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, explained today in an interview with Onda Cero the measures that are being taken by the central government to help the tourism sector and in this sense has asked businessmen and unions not to rush the deadlines and approve ERTEs in one week.

The last extension of the ERTE was agreed until January 31, but many sectors, including tourism, demand to extend them much longer.

According to Maroto, "it is a measure that is going to be incorporated as a structural reform to the Workers' Statute" and ensures that the Government is working to "strengthen its protection, it will already be necessary in the coming months."

"We finished the year with a much-needed reinforcement program, since the hotel and restaurant sector have been the worst hit sectors," the minister assured in the interview.

In his opinion, the Government has taken measures to help the tourism sector, "it has managed to minimize the impact of the pandemic" and "protect work in companies."

DIRECT HELP

Maroto assures that the Government "has put direct measures into its action plan", and advocates "the reactivation of tourism by starting to travel safely as soon as possible."

"Spain will be a pioneer in promoting all those measures that involve traveling safely."

Finally, the minister believes that, now, with the vaccine, the tourist recovery will come soon, "for us Easter may be a milestone to begin to regain some normality," he said.
