The Dubai Statistics Center reported that the quarterly change in the industrial production index in the emirate during the third quarter of last year showed a significant recovery in the production movement, as it recorded an increase of 12.37%, compared to the second quarter of the same year, which witnessed a decrease of 8.22%, Compared to the first quarter, down by 2.89% compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.

The center stated in a statement issued yesterday that the general industrial production index for the manufacturing sector for the year 2019 recorded a decrease of 0.46%, compared to 2018, as well as during 2020, as the first three quarters witnessed successive declines of 0.47% during the first quarter, and 13 24% during the second quarter, and 1.20% during the third quarter 2020, compared to the same periods in 2019.

These declines during the past year were affected by the spread of the "Covid-19" pandemic, which greatly affected the movement of production.

The «Dubai Statistics» launched the index of the industrial production index for the manufacturing sector, for the first time with a new series based on 2018, starting in 2019, according to the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC 4), and based on the data collected from the field survey of the facilities of the manufacturing sector in The Emirate of Dubai, where a number of 167 completed establishments were enumerated, covering 24 major economic activities on the second bound of the "ISIC 4" classification.

The manufacturing activity is one of the important activities for the economy, because it works to fill the need for domestic demand for industrial goods and services, which supports economic sustainability, and also contributes to bringing foreign currencies, by exporting locally manufactured products to the rest of the countries, which enhances the capacity of the economy in general.

It is also considered one of the vital and strategic sectors in Dubai, as it contributed 10.6% of the emirate’s GDP during the first six months of 2020 (at constant prices).

The quantitative index of this sector's products is one of the important indicators, as it reflects the development in the volume of local industrial production and the strengthening of national exports.
