The Russian Defense Ministry announced that three Russian soldiers were wounded on Tuesday, December 29 in the southeast of Idleb province, controlled by the Turkish army.

This incident comes as skirmishes multiply between Syrian troops and their allies and jihadist groups strongly established in this region.

The three Russian servicemen were injured when their armored vehicle was struck by an anti-tank missile fired from an area controlled by pro-Turkish rebels, according to the Defense Ministry in Moscow.

The attack came as the Russian patrol oversaw the Turkish military's dismantling of one of its observation posts southeast of the de-escalation zone in Idleb province.

Clashes have been increasing in recent days between the Syrian army and its allies on one side, jihadist groups and pro-Turkish rebels on the other, on the fronts of Idleb, Aleppo and Latakia, bordering on the border with Turkey.

Last weekend, the Syrian army dispatched large reinforcements to the north-west of the country, after a series of attacks launched by jihadist groups.

On Monday, Russian air force raided the mountainous region of Jabal al-Akrad, held by the Turkestan Islamist Party, in the coastal province of Latakia.

This formation includes thousands of fighters from the former Soviet republics of Central Asia and the Chinese Muslim minority of Uyghurs.

The truce concluded last March on the fronts in northwestern Syria is regularly violated by the belligerents.

But no major offensive has taken place since the entry into force of the ceasefire supervised by Russia and Turkey.
