At the start of what is probably the decisive decade of climate protection, Germany bears a heavy burden, at least in public perception. A number of coal-fired power plants will be shut down at the beginning of January. At the same time, however, there is a risk of around 5,200 wind turbines being demolished in 2021. The loss of green electricity producers in this amount would be difficult to compensate for in the debit and credit of the German climate protection balance. That is why the funding period of 20 years has now been extended without further ado. The decision at the expense of electricity customers also has a strategic background: With a view to the federal election in 2021, it is important to pave the way for a certain constellation.
