Yannis and Mattis Niebelschütz could hardly have gotten a better time for their PR offensive.

Shortly before the two brothers want to announce the new funding for their learning start-up Coachhub, the news about the result of a large-scale study by the Institute of German Economy (IW) burst into preparations on December 16.

According to T-Online, companies spent around 41.3 billion euros on further training for employees last year - a record.

Above all, the digitization pressure of many companies increased the demand for out-of-home courses and internal training.

The only open question is whether the trend will continue due to the absence of presence events due to the corona.

Because of Corona Run on digital training opportunities

Yannis Niebelschütz already has a clear answer to this: "The corona pandemic has triggered a real run on digital further training offers," he says in an interview with "Gründerszene".

Niebelschütz brings employees and trainers together via his online platform Coachhub, which he founded together with his brother Mattis in Berlin in 2018.

First, the employee to be coached fills out two short questionnaires before an algorithm suggests three coaches who are particularly suitable for their goals and preferences.

Training is then carried out via video consultation on the smartphone.

A popular offer, as Niebelschütz explains: “The demand for our coaching has increased many times over in comparison to the previous year.

We have had several record months in a row, with topics like mental health and stress management high on the list. "

Well-known Draper fund joins Coachhub

This has now also called on other donors.

As Coachhub announced, around 25 million euros (30 million dollars) will flow into the Berlin start-up in the course of a Series B round.

The London-based VC Draper Esprit from the well-known Silicon Valley financier Tim Draper has taken a new stake, with additional funds coming from previous investors around HV Capital, Partech, Speedinvest, Signals Venture Capital and RTP Global.

The funds raised for Coachhub now amount to around 40 million euros.

When asked, founder Yannis Niebelschütz did not want to comment on the company valuation.

With the fresh capital, the start-up now wants to increase its pool of 1,000 freelance trainers.

"In 2021 we want to double the number of business coaches to 2000", said Niebelschütz.

Coachhub earns money with monthly terminable framework contracts that the startup concludes with companies.

Depending on the number of participating employees, the costs per course vary.

Because the video training saves costs for travel and room bookings, Coachhub can offer its courses more cheaply than traditional providers, according to Niebelschütz.

He doesn't want to say how much sales the company will generate this year.

Just this much: "We expect our rapid growth to continue, especially thanks to the new financing options."

Coachhub expand its team

By the end of next year, Coachhub wants to expand its team from currently 180 to around 350 employees.

The business of company-wide training courses is also competitive within the startup scene.

In addition to Coachhub, the Bochum-based provider Masterplan is also advertising for employees who are willing to learn.

It wasn't until August that the company was able to collect medium, seven-digit financing.

There are also a large number of online universities that advertise with offers specifically for working people.

The better-known providers include Udacity or Lecturio from Leipzig.
