Ahmed bin Saeed: Emirates Airlines transported the first shipment of the "Pfizer-Biontech" vaccine for the Dubai Health Authority.

Emirates SkyCargo has achieved a new milestone by transferring the first shipment of "Covid-19" vaccines produced by "Pfizer-BioNTech" to the United Arab Emirates for the benefit of the Dubai Health Authority.

The vaccines were transported from Brussels on the Emirates flight EK 182, which landed at 11:15 last night (Tuesday, December 22) at Dubai International Airport.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Airline and Group, said: “Emirates Airlines is proud to bring the first shipment of Pfizer-Biontec vaccine for the Covid-19 pandemic to the UAE for the benefit of the Dubai Health Authority. Upon arrival at Dubai International Airport, the shipment was unloaded and transported quickly, to "Sky Pharma", the Emirates Air Cargo Building designated for handling medicines and vaccines, to be cleared and delivered.

Emirates SkyCargo utilizes the experience it has gained over the past two decades in transporting vaccines and pharmaceutical products that are temperature controlled on its aircraft.

It has developed a GDP-certified infrastructure to store and handle drug shipments in Dubai.

The carrier has also launched a "drug lanes" program, where it cooperates with ground handling companies and local airports in major drug manufacturing and production centers around the world to protect shipments while in transit.

The program now covers more than 30 cities, including Brussels.

Emirates SkyCargo had recently established the largest air facility in the world in Dubai to store and distribute COVID-19 vaccines.

The capacity of this facility is estimated at about 10 million bottles of vaccine at once, in an environment with a constant temperature between 2-8 degrees Celsius.

Thanks to its fleet of modern wide-body aircraft, its extensive network of lines, and its advanced infrastructure, Emirates SkyCargo is able to quickly transport vaccines from various manufacturing sites to destinations across six continents of the world.

The carrier has started distributing "Covid-19" vaccines from a number of international manufacturers.
