Of course everything is different these days.

There is no shopping in stores, certainly not participating in events and for many not even work.

The daily routine of most Germans looks pretty monotonous in lockdown.

But there have been better times.

This is borne out by data from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which asked people in dozens of countries how much time they typically spend each day on various activities.

Of course, work and sleep take up most of the space, but here there are big differences between the nations.

The Japanese and Chinese work the longest.

The Germans spend a third less time on it, the Italians even only half.

However, this is an average for the entire population between the ages of 15 and 64. Schoolchildren and students, housewives, the unemployed and early retirees are also counted.

In addition, Saturdays and Sundays are also recorded, on which most do not have any paid work.

In such a calculation, even the Chinese only get an average of five hours and 15 minutes a day.

It is clearer with sleep - everyone surrenders to it equally, every day.

But here too the Chinese are ahead.

They spend more than nine hours a day horizontally, closely followed by Americans and Indians, who need a quarter of an hour less.

The Germans, on the other hand, get by with an average of eight hours and 18 minutes, one of the shortest sleep periods in Europe.

However, the Japanese need almost an hour less.

Amazingly, when it comes to shopping, Germans are at the top.

They invest more than half an hour a day in this.

The Americans who are supposedly so in love with shopping are ten minutes less.

Indians and South Africans are the fastest - they only need twelve and nine minutes a day, respectively.

But that is probably due in large part to the lack of financial possibilities.

South Africans, on the other hand, are more sociable - they spend 82 minutes a day meeting friends.

The Japanese and Chinese hardly have the opportunity to do this: just 17 and 23 minutes respectively.

The Norwegians, regardless of gender, have the most time for leisure time.

Men in the country have only four minutes more than women.

This is not the case in other countries.

In Germany the difference between the sexes is half an hour, men are ahead.

Portuguese women only have 200 minutes of free time a day, while the Portuguese have 89 minutes more, almost an hour and a half.

Housework and other duties there probably continue to weigh heavily on women.

Women in Mexico have even less time for themselves, just 159 minutes a day.

But the men don't have much more free time there either.

It is completely different with men in Greece and Italy.

But to avoid a cliché: This has to do with the high unemployment.

Some would probably be happy to have less free time there.
