The Emirates Global Aluminum Company has signed a series of agreements with the Indonesian company "Inalum", to provide the technology to develop the aluminum smelter of the Indonesian company in North Sumatra.

Yesterday, a statement said that the agreement comes within the framework of the "Indonesian-Emirati Week", which is organized by the embassies of the two countries to strengthen economic relations and bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Indonesia.

According to the statement, Emirates Global Aluminum will provide the necessary expertise to develop the performance of the aluminum smelter, by retrofitting the current technology, which was used for the first time in 1982.

The project is expected to take about 18 months, and it aims to increase production from North Sumatra's smelter by about 20,000 tons of aluminum annually. Emirates Global Aluminum has extensive experience in modernizing aluminum smelting techniques.

The two companies also extended a future memorandum of understanding on the possibility of cooperation in a wider field, in building a new aluminum smelter in Indonesia, using the developed technology owned by Emirates Global Aluminum.

The CEO of Emirates Global Aluminum, Abdul Nasser Ibrahim bin Kalban, said, “The company is distinguished by its great experience and high efficiency in developing aluminum smelting technologies, whether locally or at the global level,” expressing his confidence in the completion of the project within the specified timeframe.

In 2016, Emirates Global Aluminum became the first Emirati industrial company to license its basic industrial process technologies at the global level, in efforts to develop the economy in the UAE.

The company previously sold smelting technology to Bahrain in 2019. Last month, it signed an agreement with Neo Aluminum Colombia to pave the way for the export of Emirates Global Aluminum technology to Colombia.
