When you are cautious, you easily tend to overheat your interior.

But it's not good for your health or the wallet.

To save money while respecting sanitary recommendations, it is possible to rely on a programmable thermostat.

Each room has its own micro-climate

The interior temperature of a house is never supposed to rise above twenty degrees.

Taking into account the uses of each room, specialists recommend maintaining a low 19 ° C in the living room, the dining room or the kitchen, while the bedrooms should ideally be at 16 ° C.

The bathroom, on the other hand, should have a thermostat of between 17 ° C when not in use, and 22 ° C when you wash in it.

Do you find these measures too strict compared to your habits?

To help you adopt the right reflexes, know that according to the Ecological Transition Agency (the former Ademe), lowering your heating by only 1 ° C allows you to save 7% of energy.

Optimize your heating

To control the degrees, the first requirement is obviously to insulate your home and invest in efficient heating.

It is then a question of optimizing your device.

What is the point, for example, of the boiler running full blast all day long while you are at work or traveling?

This is where the room thermostat comes in. This control box, usually installed in the living room, is used to control the heating system.

Exit the old versions equipped with a dial.

The new programmable thermostats allow you to define heating time ranges according to your lifestyle and to adjust the number of degrees you want at any given time.

If you opt for a so-called smart or connected version, you can manage this system from your smartphone and analyze your energy consumption.

For more detailed management, you can couple your room thermostat with thermostatic valves installed on each radiator, in order to adjust the temperature room by room.

Finally, a sensor placed outside the house will provide additional comfort by allowing the heating to anticipate climatic variations.

A helping hand with the installation

Today there are programmable thermostats at all prices.

Count less than 100 euros for a classic version and at least 150 for a connected model.

However, the more sophisticated the device, the more recourse to a specialist is recommended, which adds more than a hundred euros of labor to the final invoice.

From June 25, 2020 until December 31, 2021, you can benefit from a grant to finance this equipment.

As part of the “Energy saving boost” program, based on energy saving certificates, the government has created a new bonus dedicated to the “thermostat with efficient regulation”.

This flat-rate envelope of 150 euros is intended for any owner of a home with an individual heating system, regardless of means.

To benefit from it, you must call on a licensed professional and opt for a model that meets certain criteria of effectiveness.

This premium cannot be combined with other public aid.

The “Helping Hand” bonuses are granted by energy suppliers (electricity, gas and other fuels) in order to finance all or part of the renovation work for individuals, according to specifications set by the State.

This sponsorship allows these operators to obtain energy saving certificates (EEC) and thus meet their legal obligations by avoiding financial penalties.

How to take advantage of the bonus?

  • Eligible equipment: if your heating system has a hot water loop, your programmable thermostat must display class VI, VII or VIII temperature control.

When there is no hot water loop, the thermostat must include automatic temperature regulation by room or by heating zone.

  • The operator's choice: you must open a request file with a professional who has signed the “Helping Hand Thermostat with efficient regulation” commitment charter.

Please note, the invoice must specify the technical characteristics of the installed equipment.

  • The premium: The flat-rate envelope of 150 euros is necessarily paid at the end of the work, on presentation of the supporting document.

It can be paid directly to the owner in euros or in the form of vouchers or be deducted from the invoice.
