To strengthen the competitiveness of the agriculture, forestry and fisheries industry, the government has confirmed its policy of setting priority items and expanding exports, as well as building a sustainable food system with less environmental impact.

On the 15th, the government held a meeting of the "Headquarters for Creating Vitality of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Regions" at the Prime Minister's residence, and was attended by Prime Minister Kan, Chief Cabinet Secretary Kato, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Nogami and other related ministers.

Among them, in order to raise the export value of agriculture, forestry and fishery products and foods to 5 trillion yen by 2030, we confirmed the policy of promptly implementing a new strategy to set 27 priority items and strengthen the support system.

In addition, by utilizing renewable energy and reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides toward the realization of a carbon-free society, not only the agriculture, forestry and fisheries industry, but also the entire food system including food processing and distribution can be made sustainable. In light of concerns about the global food supply system due to the effects of the new corona virus, we also agreed to consider measures related to food security, such as switching food ingredients to domestic products.

At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Suga said, "It is the administration's basic policy to raise local income and revitalize local areas by making agriculture, forestry and fisheries a growth industry. It is attractive that agriculture, forestry and fisheries lead the regional economy. I would like to promote reforms in each field so that it becomes an industry. "
