Dacia Sandero Stepway -

DR

The Dacia Sandero, and more particularly its “SUV-ized” Stepway version, is not only the brand's best-seller, but it is also one of the most popular cars in its category throughout Europe.

And we know why: it gives as many people as possible access to new cars and trendy technological equipment.

But until then, it still required a little sacrifice.

The Sandero, for example, was not always graceful from certain angles, and the interior presentation was commensurate with the prices charged: basic.

Really pretty

We did say "until then".

Because with this new generation, it seems to us that buying a Dacia no longer implies the slightest notion of giving up.

But it is especially on the inside that the transformation is deep.

Fortunately, everything hasn't changed: the Sandero is still just as spacious for its size, and remains a good, practical wagon.

In terms of quality, however, what a change!

The steering wheel is covered with a pleasant imitation leather, and the dashboard is dressed in a fabric covering as elegant as it is trendy.

The general design of the interior is also more sophisticated than in the past, and there are very current ideas, such as the smartphone holder, which is right in the center of the board if the touch screen option is not used (the phone which then fulfills all the functions, ideal for the most economical), or right next to the touch screen.

No complaints

All this is therefore very modern, and the mechanical catalog is just as much, since it now overlooks ... diesel.

Dacia offers a base 65 hp petrol engine, a 90 hp petrol engine for the "core range", and maintains the recently introduced 100 hp petrol / LPG engine.

Note that this time, the LPG is perfectly integrated into the car: the switch button is "factory", and the dashboard displays a double gauge and the average consumption of each fuel.

Nickel.

We tested a 90 hp Sandero fitted with another novelty in the range: a CVT automatic transmission.

On the road, we clearly feel that this box is not cut for sporty driving.

On the other hand, it helps to make the Sandero more pleasant to live with than ever in "good family" driving.

Added to this is a level of comfort that is also on the rise, in part thanks to the fact that the Sandero is based on the all-new platform of the latest Renault Clio.

And that too is anything but low cost.

The new Dacia Sandero starts at € 8,690, the Stepway at € 13,890.
