"In the process of clean energy transition, no country should be left behind." Hemi Bahar, senior analyst of the International Energy Agency's renewable energy market and policy, said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency.

He said that China's active response to climate change, adherence to green and low-carbon development and proposed carbon neutral goals are very important for responding to global climate change.

In September of this year, China announced that it would increase its nationally determined contributions, adopt more powerful policies and measures, strive to reach its peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030, and strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

Bahar said the announcement was "very important."

The International Energy Agency released the "Renewable Energy Report 2020" in November, and Bahar is one of the authors of the report.

The report pointed out that although the new crown epidemic continues to affect the global economy and daily life, renewable energy, especially power generation technology, has shown unique resilience in response to the crisis.

Bahar said that in 2020, global energy demand will fall by 5%, but long-term contracts, priority access policies, and new power plants support strong growth in renewable energy power generation, an increase of nearly 7%; in 2020, global renewable energy installed capacity Capacity will increase by nearly 4%, reaching a record of approximately 200 GW, accounting for nearly 90% of the new increase in total global power generation capacity.

He also said that by 2025, renewable energy will replace coal and become the world's largest source of power generation.

By then, renewable energy is expected to provide one-third of the world's electricity.

"China is a global leader in the field of renewable energy, and will continue to be far ahead in the next few years." Bahar said that China has successfully achieved rapid growth in renewable energy production and consumption.

"According to our analysis, global carbon emissions need to be cut by 40% by 2030 to achieve the goal of net zero emissions by 2050. This requires a variety of efforts, including large-scale investment in renewable energy, technological innovation, etc. ."He said.

Bahar said that in order to achieve sustainable development and the climate goals of the Paris Agreement, all countries should strive to increase the proportion of renewable energy sources, ensure access to universally reliable electricity, and actively create inclusive, resilient, and low-carbon energy systems.
