Terminal 4 at London Heathrow will remain closed for most of 2021

Heathrow Airport in London announced today that Terminal 4 will remain closed until the end of next year due to the decline in passenger numbers due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The airport in west London said that passenger numbers fell by 88 percent last month compared to November 2019 due to continuing travel restrictions and restrictions on movement aimed at reducing the rates of Covid-19 infection throughout England.

He pointed out that only 747,000 people used the airport in November, and freight operations decreased from the previous year.

"Based on current expectations and the continuing decline in the number of passengers, a decision has been taken regarding the stay of Terminal 4, idle until the end of 2021," he said in a statement.

During the period of the lockdown measures taken to confront the emerging corona virus across the United Kingdom from March, Heathrow Airport closed Terminal 3 in April and Terminal 4 in May, and diverted all flights to Terminals 2 and 5.

The airport appealed to the government to provide more support to protect jobs.

He wants a tax credit for all UK airports and a scrapping of the duty-free shopping scrapping project from January 1.

Before the global health crisis, Heathrow was the largest airport in Europe, but it has seen a drop in passenger numbers since then in favor of other airports, including Paris's Charles de Gaulle.
