A rapprochement between Morocco and Israel, the rumor was already talking about three months ago when the agreements were signed ensuring the normalization of
Israel's
relations
with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
Agreements signed in Washington under the benevolent eye of Donald Trump, then campaigning for his re-election.
The outgoing president had announced that five or six additional Arab countries would follow the example of the two Gulf States.
Last October, it was
Sudan's
turn
to announce its rapprochement with the Hebrew state.
A way out of its isolation on the international scene and thus of the economic crisis in which the country is plunged.
The Israeli media have therefore been announcing for several months also a possible rapprochement with Morocco.
In exchange for establishing formal diplomatic relations with Israel, Rabat is said to have sought American recognition of its sovereignty over Western Sahara.
The former Spanish colony is currently disputed between the Moroccans and the separatists of the Polisario Front supported by Algeria.
It will therefore be done, according to the Twitter account of the American president, who is currently living his last weeks in the White House.
Today, I signed a proclamation recognizing Moroccan sovereignty over the Western Sahara.
Morocco's serious, credible, and realistic autonomy proposal is the ONLY basis for a just and lasting solution for enduring peace and prosperity!
