China News Service, Phnom Penh, December 1 (Reporter Ouyang Kaiyu) Despite the impact of the new crown epidemic and floods this year, Cambodia's rice exports have maintained a strong growth momentum, and the demand in the Chinese market has become an important factor.

A report issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia on December 1 stated that in the first 11 months of this year, a total of 601,000 tons of Cambodian rice was exported to foreign markets, an increase of 86,000 tons over the same period last year, an increase of 16.9%.

At present, Cambodian rice has been exported to 60 countries in the world, including China, as well as 24 countries in the European Union and 6 countries in ASEAN.

Cambodia currently has 72 related companies engaged in rice export.

Regarding the substantial increase in exports, some industry experts in Cambodia analyzed that under the background of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the demand for food in Cambodian rice importing countries has increased. In addition, Cambodia’s import tax on related countries and regions has dropped and the import quota has increased. Reasons for the increase in rice exports.

At the same time, the Chinese market is also a crucial factor. According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, compared with the same period in 2019, the share of Cambodian rice exports to China in the first 11 months has increased, and it currently accounts for 39.09%.

At present, China has become the largest export destination of Cambodian rice, and the market share of Cambodian rice in China's imported rice has increased from zero to about 10%.

According to reports, in response to the difficulties encountered by Cambodian rice exports this year due to the epidemic and abnormal weather, relevant Chinese authorities have taken a series of measures to promote Cambodian rice exports to China.

Actively enter the market during the listing of Cambodian new grains, overcome the adverse effects of rising import costs, find sources of goods through multiple channels, and actively import Cambodian rice to help Cambodian exporters find sales channels and promote the healthy development of Cambodian rice industry.
