Nawah Energy Company, a subsidiary of the joint alliance between the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and the Korean Electric Power Company (KEPCO), which is responsible for operating and maintaining the Barakah peaceful nuclear power plants, announced that the first plant reactor has reached a level of 80% of its energy production capacity.

According to a statement issued yesterday, the arrival of the power of the first plant reactor in Barakah to the level of 80% is a very important step within the process of progressive energy testing, which includes gradually raising the level of the reactor energy, collecting data and adjusting control and safety systems, indicating that, During this process, the first station systems are monitored and tested, to ensure they adhere to local regulatory requirements, and the highest international standards for safety and quality.

The process of progressive energy testing is carried out under the continuous supervision of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, which has conducted more than 280 inspections, since the start of the development of the Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Power Plants Project, in addition to more than 40 evaluation and review missions by the International Atomic Energy Agency and the International Association of Operators. The Nuclearists.

The operating team at Nawah Energy Company is working at the first plant, to complete the process of progressive energy testing, and to continue safe progress until the electricity production percentage in the station reaches its full capacity by 100%, in the coming months.

After this is achieved, the plant will be gradually closed, until the electricity production process is completely stopped, and then the final testing process will start.

During the complete stopping of electricity production and the final testing, which lasts for several months, the systems of the first station will be carefully monitored and tested, and the required and scheduled maintenance work will be carried out, to ensure that they adhere to the highest standards of safety, security and quality, before the commercial operation of the station begins.

It is noteworthy that the construction work on the first station of the Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Power Plants Project, which includes four advanced reactors of the "APR1400" type, began in 2012 and was completed in 2018.

The construction work in the second plant was completed, with the Nawah Energy Company starting operational preparations, at a time when the construction work in the third and fourth stations reached their final stages, while the overall completion rate of the four stations reached 94%.

After operating the four plants in Barakah, it will provide 25% of the UAE’s needs for safe, reliable and environmentally friendly electrical energy, in addition to reducing carbon emissions by 21 million tons annually.
