Carton recycling, source plastic reduction, tape "slimming"——

How to "green" over 80 billion express packages in the year

3.965 billion pieces. This is the total number of express shipments handled by postal and express companies across the country from November 1 to 11 this year. Among them, the number of express shipments on the 11th alone reached 675 million, an increase of 26.16% year-on-year and a record high.

According to the forecast of the State Post Bureau, my country's express delivery business volume will exceed 80 billion pieces this year, and more and more people will benefit from the development of the express delivery industry.

While the number of express delivery is growing rapidly, how to deal with the huge number of express packages?

This year's "Double 11", "green" express packaging has given people new choices.

  Recycling of express boxes

Next to the courier delivery point at the West Gate of Communication University of China, there is a courier packaging recycling box.

During the "Double 11" period this year, many students took the express delivery and unpacked it on the spot, and put the express delivery box into the recycling box.

When returning the goods, you can ask the staff for the recycled cartons for free.

"Generally speaking, a college will deliver 10,000 to 20,000 express items every day, and there will be more online shopping festivals like'Double 11' and '618'. In the past, because there was no place to dispose of express delivery boxes at the express delivery point, students We all throw the boxes into the trash cans on campus, which is not environmentally friendly and increases the workload of the cleaning staff.” The person in charge of the receiving and dispatching point said that now that there are recycling boxes, about 30 to 40% of students will take the initiative to put the boxes. Recycle and reuse.

Chen Yue, a junior at Communication University of China, who is collecting express delivery, told reporters that the express packaging box does not have much opportunity for students to reuse, and it takes up space and needs to find a place to throw it away.

"Now that there is a recycling box, the excess packaging can be recycled directly after the package is picked up, which is also considered as a contribution to environmental protection."

Data shows that my country’s express delivery industry consumes more than 9 million tons of paper waste and 1.8 million tons of plastic waste each year, and they are showing a rapid growth trend.

As an important way to reduce express waste, "secondary utilization" has attracted more and more attention from all walks of life.

At present, China Post has installed packaging waste recycling devices in more than 11,000 business outlets; SF Express has installed standard express packaging waste recycling devices in 18,000 outlets, and carried out packaging recycling in 40 areas; nearly 30% of JD’s outlets have installed The express packaging recycling device has recycled 150 million cartons so far, and the number of secondary use has reached 150 million... Bian Zuodong, deputy director of the Market Supervision Department of the State Post Bureau, said that the recycling of express packaging is an important way to develop green express delivery. It is possible to recycle and reuse the basically intact cartons to make the best use of them.

  Reduce excessive packaging by express

In addition to the secondary utilization of express packaging boxes, how to reduce excessive express packaging is also the focus of green express delivery.

Consumers may have some intuitive feelings about the excessive packaging of express delivery. For example, it is only a small ornament of a few centimeters long, but it has to be disassembled from the layers of plastic bubble net. The weight of the packaging often exceeds the product itself.

The express packages that people come into contact with are mainly cartons, plastic bags, fillers and scotch tape.

Carton boxes need to consume a lot of wood in the production process; and plastic bags, fillers and scotch tape, etc., are basically landfilled or incinerated, causing great pressure on the environment.

"On the whole, the situation of excessive packaging is gradually improving in the industry, and green and concise express packaging and labels are gradually being promoted." The relevant person in charge of Zhongtong Express said that taking Zhongtong Express as an example, the current electronic interface of the entire network The usage rate of single sheets exceeds 99.9%, which reduces paper consumables by 80% compared with traditional face sheets; the traditional 48mm tape is changed to less than 45mm, and the packaging ratio of "slim tape" is greater than 90%; with RFID (radio frequency identification technology) chips can be used There are more than 6.37 million circulating transfer bags, and it is expected to achieve full coverage of the entire network by the end of 2020.

Hou Yanbo, deputy director of the Office of the State Post Bureau and second-level inspector, said that this year the State Post Bureau proposed the "9572" project, which means that by the end of 2020, it will strive to achieve 90% of the packaging ratio of "slim tape" below 45 mm and no more e-commerce express mail The packaging rate reached 70%, the use rate of recyclable transit bags reached 90%, and 20,000 postal express outlets equipped with standard packaging waste recycling devices were newly added.

As of the end of August, the proportion of "slim tape" packaging nationwide has reached 94.3%, e-commerce express mail no longer has a secondary packaging rate of 68.5%, recyclable transit bags have a utilization rate of 87.2%, and 35,000 postal services with standard packaging recycling boxes have been added. Express outlets.

Hou Yanbo pointed out that there is no suspense to complete the year-end target according to this schedule, and this also means that the level of "green packaging" in the express industry has been greatly improved.

The green product certification system for express packaging has officially landed

In order to further promote the green development of the express packaging industry and increase the supply of green products, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the State Post Bureau have also actively promoted the establishment of a green product certification system for express packaging to help the green development of the industry.

On October 30, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the State Post Bureau issued the "Express Packaging Green Product Certification Catalog (First Batch)" and "Express Packaging Green Product Certification Rules" in the form of a joint announcement. The express packaging green product certification system was officially implemented.

According to Bo Yumin, deputy director of the Certification Supervision Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation, the first batch of green certification catalogs for express packaging gave priority to 10 products such as packaging boxes and tapes that are widely used in the express industry. Based on "Technical Requirements", evaluations are made from the aspects of resources, energy, environment and quality.

"The express packaging products that have obtained green certification mean that they meet the characteristics of resource saving, environmentally sound, and consumer-friendly. For example, the use of natural, degradable or recyclable raw materials, strict control of the heavy metal content of the product, no irritation Sexual odor, can be recycled many times, tape is used less, recyclable, etc." Bo Yumin said, taking common paper express packaging boxes as an example, packaging boxes that pass the green product certification must use recycled paper or recycled plant fibers as basic materials , And strictly control the content of metals such as lead and mercury. The product packaging adopts buckle, zipper and other designs. It uses less or no tape packaging. The product smell meets the requirements of national and industry standards. It uses environmentally friendly water-based ink to print and the printing area Do not exceed the specified ratio.

Bo Yumin pointed out that with the implementation of the green product certification system for express packaging, it is believed that consumers will soon see envelopes, boxes, bags, waybills and other express packaging products with green product logos when receiving and sending the express.

At the same time, express packaging with China's green product logo will also carry export products made in China to all over the world, and the green logo will become an important carrier for my country to practice green development.
