It has become a trend in colleges and universities, but has been coldly treated in the community

Why express packaging recycling is hot and cold

Our reporter Dai Lili Wang Tianqi

This year's "Double 11", mass express delivery was delivered to consumers, and the amount of garbage also doubled.

In fact, many of the garbage generated by express delivery is recyclable, such as cartons, filled foam, plastic packaging bags, etc., which can be directly reused.

However, the reporter recently visited some residential communities and universities, and found that express packaging recycling has become a trend in universities, but it has been coldly treated in the community.

This hot and cold situation shows that there is still a long way to go to promote the reuse of recyclables.

Community: The old recycling bin is gone

In the Jingyili and Dongyingfang communities of Haidian District, a simple express packaging recycling center was previously set up next to the express cabinet, so that residents can directly remove the packaging after taking the express and sort them.

But the reporter came to these two communities a few days ago, but couldn't find the courier packaging recycling place.

In Jingyili community, an old man who was exercising told reporters: “It used to be there but it was not used by people, and then it disappeared.” The old man said that there are hawkers collecting waste products in the community. They are all sold to hawkers when they save too much.

"When you take a package from the express cabinet, you usually take it home to unpack it. Few people will unpack it on the spot next to the express cabinet. It's not easy to take it after you have opened it." "Even if the courier can pick it up, it's worth it. Come here. But who can save so many boxes?" Many community residents said that recycling express boxes is a good thing, but when it comes to doing it, there are always all kinds of inconveniences.

Resident Mr. Sun said that there is no incentive mechanism for express packaging recycling, and everyone can't get any benefits, resulting in low enthusiasm, and sometimes prefer to pick up the waste.

  Express outlets: no recycling business

"Recycling? I haven't heard of it. We don't have this business." Near Tiejiafen in Haidian District, a young courier from Yunda was confused about the recycling of express packaging.

Yuantong’s courier brother said: “If there are unused boxes that can be brought to me, I will use it for express delivery, but there is definitely no reward.” Jingdong’s courier brother said: “I heard that there were some recycling express cartons to deliver Jingdou. Activities, but it’s not clear if there are any, and no one has ever asked me to recycle."

The reporter noticed that some postal outlets have specially set up packaging recycling boxes.

At the Post Office on Yongding Road, Haidian, there is a green packaging recycling box as soon as you enter the door. The box is divided into two parts, with plastic on the left and paper products on the right.

But for half a day, there is no user to deliver the express package.

  Universities: 30-40% packaging recycling

Courier packaging recycling, which is cold in communities and outlets, is quite popular in colleges and universities.

On the east side of the campus of Beijing Forestry University, several large rows of express cabinets are hardly "idle", and next to it is a express packaging recycling box.

The students took out the express, unpacked on the spot, and stuffed the express carton into the recycling bin.

These cartons will be sent to the shipping point of the courier service center. If students need cartons when sending them, they can ask the staff for free.

Deng Qingyuan, general manager of "Near Neighbor", who is in charge of the express delivery business of this college, said that they have cooperated with more than 40 colleges and universities in the city, and each college has set up express packaging recycling boxes.

Since November 1st, campus express delivery business has reached its peak. Each college’s daily express delivery volume is between 10,000 and 15,000 pieces. About 30% to 40% of the express packaging is recycled. The original express packaging recycling bins are no longer enough. used.

Innovative recycling methods are expected to "break the ice"

Why is the recycling of express packaging hot and cold?

Deng Qingyuan analyzed: "The situation in the residential community is different from the school. The school's collection and delivery locations are relatively concentrated, and the courier boxes are easy to recycle. The dormitory space is limited and students have nowhere to store the courier cartons. The need for recycling is more urgent. . But for residents, the business is very scattered, most of which are collection, and the delivery business only accounts for 5% to 8%. Packaging recycling is more difficult to promote."

However, if we can innovate recycling methods, express packaging recycling is expected to penetrate the community.

Beijing Ai Classification Technology Co., Ltd. is promoting recycling business in some communities in Changping.

They distributed a large recycling bag with a capacity of 20 kilograms to each household. After a certain amount of recyclables in the residents’ homes is saved, they can make an appointment through the "Love Classification" WeChat applet or the service phone. The recycling staff will be at 8 o'clock. Pick up at home between 20 o'clock.

After the recyclers come to the door, they will weigh the recyclables and issue "environmental protection funds" to residents. Each kilogram of recyclables can be exchanged for 0.8 yuan. The "environmental protection funds" can be used directly in supermarkets and convenience stores in the community.

Master Zeng, a recycling worker in charge of BBMG Jiahe Garden Community, told reporters that BBMG Jiahe Garden has 814 households with 2,571 people, and over 90% of them have become "Love Classification" users.

Since October 20, Master Zeng felt that the number of residents who had made appointments had increased significantly. “Almost 20 orders can be received every day, and the collection volume has increased by about 20%.”

Xu Yuanhong, general manager of Beijing Ai Sorting Technology Co., Ltd., introduced that Ai Sorting has a special closed sorting center in Changping District. After the recyclables collected from the community are transported to the sorting center, there will be professionals who will All kinds of recyclables are sorted again, and then simply cleaned, crushed or compressed, and then packaged and sent to relevant downstream renewable resource utilization enterprises.

Xu Yuanhong said that the resource utilization rate of recyclables entering the sorting center is above 90%.
