RCEP agreement “gradual elimination of tariffs on sake for China and South Korea” November 13, 5:25

With the growing prospect of agreement among 15 countries without India, RCEP = East Asia Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, five important items such as rice imported into Japan are excluded from tariff reduction and elimination, while China and It turned out that tariffs on sake for South Korea are being gradually eliminated.

The RCEP, in which 16 countries in the Asia-Pacific region such as Japan, China, and ASEAN countries participate, has almost finished coordinating the contents of the agreement in each country except India, which suggests withdrawal. The outlook is getting stronger.



According to the people concerned, in the negotiations so far, five important items such as rice, beef / pork, and dairy products imported into Japan will not be subject to tariff reduction or elimination, while frozen processed vegetables from China will be staged. It is expected to be abolished.



The tariff elimination rate for agriculture, forestry and fishery products is 61% for ASEAN = Association of Southeast Asian Nations, 56% for China, 49% for South Korea, etc., which is significantly lower than the TPP = Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement.



On the other hand, with regard to exports from Japan, tariffs on scallops to China, beef to Indonesia, and sake and shochu to China and South Korea, which are exported in large quantities, are being gradually eliminated.



In addition, in the field of industrial products, tariffs on automobile parts, steel, chemical products, etc. are expected to be eliminated or reduced, which is expected to lead to promotion of trade and expansion of investment in a wide range of fields.
