• Housing The 'boom' of single-family houses contains their prices

Home buying and selling accelerated its recovery at the end of the summer and is approaching the level of sales before the lockdown.

The number of transactions reached

37,839 operations

in September

, a figure higher than the 34,806 registered in March, when the state of alarm was decreed and activity was paralyzed throughout the country.

With the end of spring the

de-escalation

arrived

and since then, the sale of houses has gradually resumed its activity.

Demand and interest in buying a house has skyrocketed

after the confinement and this has caused that for the third consecutive month, the number of transactions exceeds the 30,000 barrier.

The September figure is 20.5% more than that of August, although it is still 1.1% lower than a year ago, according

to the Property Rights Transfer Statistics

(ETDP) published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (

INE

).

However, the balance is still below the 44,104 sales that closed in February, when the market was operating normally and oblivious to the coronavirus that was already wreaking havoc in China.

"The September data is very close to the 40,000 homes signed and it is a very hopeful figure since it indicates that, for the moment, the demand for housing has been strongly awakened and the slight [year-on-year] fall of that month can make us think that soon we can begin to collect positive data on this statistic ", explains

Anaïs López

Director of Communication

.

The real estate portal highlights the dynamism they have observed in the sector since the end of the restrictions in May.

"Since the end of the state of alarm, we had historical data on both traffic and contacts and it indicated the great awakening that the demand for housing had had. We have never had so many people interested in moving houses," adds Anaïs López.

So far this year, the sales figure is still 22.1% lower than in the same period in 2019.

Communities

By type of transmitted dwellings, 91.3% were free and 8.7% were protected.

In annual terms, the number of free homes transferred by sale decreased by 0.6% and that of protected homes by 6.4%.

Furthermore, 22.2% of the transmitted homes were new and 77.8% were used.

The number of operations on new homes increased 29.2% compared to September 2019, while the number of used homes decreased 7.4%.

By communities, the regions that presented the highest annual increases in the number of home sales in September were Extremadura (53.3%), Principado de Asturias (46.9%) and La Rioja (38.6%), while the Basque Country (-23.8%), the Balearic Islands (-15.1%) and the Autonomous Community of Navarra (-15.0%) recorded the greatest decreases.
