In Q3 2020, the Russian labor market began to gradually recover from the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

So, from July to September, the number of vacancies in the country increased by almost one and a half times compared to the same period in 2019, and job seekers requested contacts from employers 40% more often.

This is evidenced by the data provided by the RT analytical center "Avito Rabota".

“If most of the second quarter of 2020 was accompanied by a decrease in economic activity due to the pandemic, then in the third quarter the labor market began to revive due to the emergence of vacancies in the areas most affected by the lockdown,” the company said.

It seems that the dynamics are also recorded by the specialists of the Rabota.ru service.

As the CEO of the company Alexander Veterkov told RT, from June to September the number of new vacancies on the market increased by an average of 10-15% per month.

According to Avito Rabota, over the past period of time, most of all the number of vacancies has increased in state and non-profit organizations (by 74%), in the group of professions “production, raw materials, agriculture” (by 62%), as well as “medicine and pharmaceuticals "(by 45%).

At the same time, the demand for professionals in the banking industry (by 18%) and the entertainment sector (by 17%) decreased.

“The number of offers also decreased from catering and hotel businesses, since not all of them opened after the quarantine was canceled.

At the same time, the number of vacancies in retail, logistics and, especially, in the construction sector has grown significantly.

Previously, these types of work were often carried out by migrants who left for their homeland as soon as possible.

Now, to attract Russians to these spheres, employers not only increased the number of offers, but also raised salaries by 10-15%, ”Veterkov added.

As the managing director of Avito Rabota told RT, Artyom Kumpel, as a result of an increase in the number of vacancies in the third quarter, the average level of salaries offered by employers in Russia increased by 17% - to 35 thousand rubles.

The highest indicator was noted in the automotive business (45 thousand rubles), construction (43 thousand), as well as in the groups of professions "transport, logistics" and "fitness, beauty salons" (40 thousand).

According to Anastasia Uskova, CEO of the Rocket Work platform, the coronavirus pandemic has served as a key factor in the growth in the number of remote job vacancies.

According to the expert, in the future, work from home may become a new demanded norm of employment.

“Over the past year, the number of vacancies with remote work has more than doubled.

Entrepreneurs are actively moving workflows online.

Thus, in a period of economic turbulence, the business gets the opportunity to optimize costs, including spending on rent.

It is possible that this trend will continue after the pandemic, "Uskova emphasized in an interview with RT.

Labor spirit

The outlined revival of the employment sector is also noted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.

As the head of the department Anton Kotyakov said earlier, in the III quarter Russia overcame the peak of unemployment.

According to Rosstat, against the background of the introduction of quarantine measures in the spring and the temporary suspension of the work of a number of companies, unemployment in Russia from March to August increased from 4.7% to 6.4%.

The value became the highest in the last eight years.

Meanwhile, at the end of September, the figure fell to 6.3%.

“The number of those registered with the employment services is also gradually decreasing.

Today it is already 3 million 584 thousand people.

Compared to the peak period, the number of unemployed citizens registered with the employment services has decreased by more than 100 thousand people, ”said Anton Kotyakov on October 21 at the congress of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

The Minister separately stressed that since the beginning of autumn the number of hired citizens has exceeded the number of those dismissed by almost 600 thousand.

At the same time, at the end of October, the number of vacancies on the Job in Russia portal returned to the pre-crisis level and amounted to about 1.5 million, added the head of the Ministry of Labor.

According to him, in May the value dropped below 900 thousand.

Experts associate the incipient recovery of the labor market with the measures taken by the state to support business and the economy.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the financing of soft loans to companies and entrepreneurs to pay salaries to employees allowed to save about 5 million jobs.

“These funds have allowed employers to keep their staff as much as possible during difficult times, and now, as businesses rebuild, they will be able to produce more goods and services.

Moreover, with accelerated development, companies are interested in hiring more employees.

This state of affairs, as a result, has a positive effect on the overall level of employment in the country, "said Georgy Ostapkovich, director of the Center for Market Research at the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge, NRU HSE, to RT.

According to the forecast of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, by the end of 2020, unemployment in Russia should be 5.7%.

At the same time, in 2021, the value will decrease to 5.2%, and in the next two years the indicator may return to pre-crisis values - 4.6-4.7%.
