This tweet of mine has provoked various reactions in that social network, igniting the Trumpists who disagree with the first part.
And, although it seems to me that the model of vassalage and homage to the US that Donald Trump has sponsored over the model of alliances and cooperation that prevailed since 1945 is more than enough reason to justify my headline (or "tweet"), I want to elaborate on the matter.
It is true that the model of vassalage - which is behind the open trade war with China and more limited with Europe, the redefinition of the Atlantic Alliance or the renegotiation of the FTA with Mexico and Canada - has been attenuated with the passage of his mandate.
But that does not prevent us from ignoring the fact that Trump continues to believe that the world has been deceiving the US for the last 70 years and that its role as the first power has not been sufficiently recognized, although that role is now evanescent before the Chinese impulse.
Trump is not the same as Trumpism.
He is, basically, a real estate developer for whom the most important thing in life is the place you occupy, and he knows how to manage a dominant position in the market, he knows how to squeeze suppliers to reduce costs and adorn the product he wants with hyperbole to sell.
Its policy of action is based exclusively on your interests.
That is why the argument of Trump's pacifism made by his followers is false.
Trump has been a pacifist only to the extent that it accommodates his isolationism.
This way of fleeing from problems has led him to be obsequious with the North Korean dictator, to negotiate with the Taliban, to accept the fall of Hong Kong by imposing a minimum cost on
Xi
, to chatter amiably with
Putin
, to allow
Erdogan's
expansionism
and to squat before the
Maduro
regime
, as was already evident in Cúcuta, although many did not want to see it.
Its isolationism is what prevents Trump from having a vision of how multilateral institutions should be reformed, the exhaustion of which has become much more apparent with the pandemic.
In return, he prefers to leave the WHO, block the mechanisms of the WTO and continue to erode the UN with his jokes rather than dispute the real control of the leftist bureaucracy.
Trump has also taken a head-on side against science, proposing hydroxychloroquine as a remedy, but refusing to take it.
That, without a doubt, has eroded the enormous popularity that it achieved, by achieving, with an astronomical debt and a cosmic deficit, that the US economy continued its inertia without causing inflation.
I don't have high hopes for Biden, because he has a very complex internal scenario before him that will totally absorb him.
The historic vote on November 3 shows the deep division of the country.
Nobody, with a minimum political criterion, can feel owner of a result that has been like tossing a coin.
Both he and
Harris
, his vice president, will be forced to sharply lower their expectations of raising taxes or increasing the number of Supreme Court justices or senators because they do not have a controlling majority in the Senate.
But I have no doubt that there are two aspects in which the world was better before these four years of Trump and probably will be again if the victory of Biden is confirmed: it will almost certainly give up on imposing a foreign policy based in vassalage and, secondly, he will reconnect his country with multilateral organizations.
This should have a short-term reflection on issues such as the global fight against pandemics and the globalization process.
