The Chairman of Virgin Hyperloop, Chairman and CEO of DP World, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, witnessed the first passenger transport test in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, and said on this occasion: “We are pleased to contribute to making a new history with the first appearance of a new pattern. This historic achievement, along with the advanced stages that took place at the Hyperloop Accreditation Center, paves the way for the adoption of Hyperloop systems around the world, which represents a fundamental step towards implementing projects in the region, especially in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Josh Jijel, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder, and Sarah Lucian, Director of Passenger Experience, Virgin Hyperloop, were the first to experience this and rode this new mode of transportation.

The test was carried out at the DeLoop site of the company’s 500-meter tests in Las Vegas, Nevada, after the company had previously conducted more than 400 tests without passengers.

Josh Jijel said, "When we started working in a garage more than 6 years ago, the goal was to change the mode of passenger transportation. The two passengers made their maiden journey aboard the recently unveiled XP-2 vehicle, designed by the Bark Angels Group, and taking into account all the safeguards for passengers' safety and comfort.

The two-seater experimental vehicle was designed to demonstrate that passengers can actually move around safely in the Hyperloop, while the vehicles in production phase will be larger to accommodate 28 passengers.

Jay Walder, Virgin Hyperloop CEO, said: “I have been asked thousands of times about how safe the Hyperloop is, and today's passenger test has provided the answer to this question, and I want to stress that Virgin Hyperloop cannot be content with keeping passengers safe inside a capsule in an environment. Certifer, a company specialized in evaluating safety features in the transportation sector, supervised the testing phase from its first day until its complete and successful test today. The XP-2 vehicle has undergone rigorous and comprehensive safety tests, which have proven that it has many vital safety systems that will be available in the commercial version of Hyperloop system and it will be equipped with the latest control system that enables it to detect unexpected problems and carry out adequate and rapid response in case of emergency.

It is noteworthy that Virgin Hyperloop announced earlier that it entered into a partnership with the Mohammed Bin Zayed University for Industrial Intelligence in Abu Dhabi to support the development of hyperloop technology and sustainable transportation through advanced artificial intelligence research.
