Hanwha Solutions, the number one petrochemical company in Korea with hydrochloric acid and caustic soda, drove the entire export container volume from 2008 to 2019 to a logistics company called Han Express.

The Fair Trade Commission pointed out the high shipping cost problem inside Hanwha Solutions, but thought that it signed a private contract and paid 8,7 billion won to Han Express.

At the same time, in the process of selling highly toxic substances, the tank lorry was transported and paid 9.1 billion won.

The FTC also determined that Han Express, which had no real role, such as dispatching, was added to the transaction stage to increase toll income while transacting with customers through an agency.

Han Express's sister and nephew of Chairman Seung-yeon Kim own more than half of the shares.

The Fair Trade Commission decided to impose a penalty of KRW 22.9 billion on Hanwha Solutions and Han Express, claiming that Hanwha Solutions had unfairly supported their relatives, and to accuse Hanwha Solutions to the prosecution.

[Jin-wook Jung/Director of Corporate Group, Fair Trade Commission: Because a large group of companies is an affiliate, we have confirmed the act of artificially distorting the market economic order by driving a logistical task to a company that is controlled by the elder sister's family, who can be said to be a whole family.

Hanwha's side refuted that Han Express is not a group affiliate and has no total ownership interest, so it is not subject to the regulation of private interests by pushing away work.

In addition, he expressed his intention to sue in objection to the Fair Trade Commission's decision, saying that the transaction was conducted normally at the normal price level.
