The Spanish labor market saw the number of unemployed grow last October by 49,558, so that the number of unemployed registered in the Employment services continues to grow and reaches 3,826,043, which is 648,043 more than it does. one year.
The balance of registrations and cancellations in the unemployment records of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) is usually positive in October.
It is traditional that it increases every month of October and its highest increase in this month was registered in 2008, when it rose by more than 192,000 people.
Last year, unemployment rose 3.18% in October to 97,948 people, almost double what it has done this year.
From this point of view, the data could be read as positive.
But it must be taken into account that in an extraordinary year for the labor market, October could have presented higher levels of recovery if, since the beginning of autumn, the outbreaks that have already become a second wave of infections and closures had not been consolidated for administrative reasons.
These figures do not include people who are kept in temporary employment regulation files (ERTE), some of whom have been in this situation since last March.
Those affected by ERTE are considered employed for statistical purposes and in October amounted to 599,350 people.
Services are the economic sector most affected by the coronavirus crisis and the closure of activities.
Construction was the sector that performed the best in the last month in terms of employment, along with education, which constitutes one of the engines of labor activity in the autumn, with the start of the course.
Social Security maintained a positive recovery trend by adding affiliates for the sixth consecutive month since the historic spring collapses
