Federal Customs decided to form an advisory council with the private sector

Ali Al-Neyadi: “The private sector is a strategic partner in the process of customs development and sustainable development adopted by the state.”

Customs Commissioner and Chairman of the Federal Customs Authority, Ali Saeed Matar Al Niyadi, issued a decision to form the Customs Advisory Council with the private sector with the aim of strengthening partnership and cooperation between the Authority and the private sector in the country to discuss customs issues, projects and initiatives aimed at developing customs work and improving its global competitiveness.

According to the decision, the board is chaired by the director of the international relations department at the authority, Saud Salem Al-Aqroubi, and a representative of the private sector, elected by the members of the council, holds the position of vice president.

The council includes in its membership a maximum of 20 people from the private sector, who are chosen by nomination according to the conditions and controls set by the decision, in addition to each of the directors of the departments of customs policies and affairs, legal affairs, customs operations and control, customs development, and customs control and inspection in the authority.

Strategic partner

In a statement issued yesterday, Al Niyadi said that the private sector is a strategic partner in the process of customs development and sustainable development adopted by the UAE, and it is an active partner in implementing the principles and goals of the UAE Vision 2020.

Al-Niyadi added, "In light of the increasing challenges at the customs and commercial levels, there are broad prospects for future cooperation with the private sector in order to achieve commercial prosperity, develop the business environment, and make it more attractive in terms of customs and trade."

Council goals

The decision specified the objectives of the Council and its basic tasks in involving the private sector in drawing up customs policies in the country, knowing the trends of international trade and keeping pace with the changes that occur to them to benefit from them when formulating customs strategies, and supporting the state’s competitiveness, in addition to listening to observations and visions of the private sector on business, practices, initiatives, programs and projects And knowing the customs challenges and obstacles facing the private sector, and exchanging ideas, suggestions and experiences.

Selection of candidates

Regarding the mechanism for selecting candidates from the private sector, the decision stipulated that the Commission shall open the door for candidacy to members from the private sector who wish to run, in accordance with the procedures and period of time determined by the Commission, taking into account the precedence of nomination, as members will be selected from the different sectors or groups that Represent them, provided that they have direct dealings with customs in the country.
