To reduce food loss Announcement of company name with revised expiration date display Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries October 30, 15:04

In order to reduce "food loss" that is still eaten but thrown away, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has begun efforts to change the display of the expiration date of long-lasting sweets and retort foods from date to month. We announced the name of the food company.

When the expiration date is displayed in units of dates, the problem is that new products are selected even for one day and those with old dates are left unsold, resulting in food loss.

For this reason, the government is calling on food companies to reduce food loss by changing the display of the expiration date for processed foods with a long shelf life to monthly or 10-day units.

When the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries investigated the status of efforts of food companies as of the 30th, a total of 156 companies have already reviewed the display of the expiration date and are planning to review it.

The 107 company names for which consent was obtained were announced on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The breakdown is 37 confectionery makers, 20 retort pouch foods, 14 soft drinks, 14 seasonings, and 3 frozen foods.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries wants to support efforts to reduce food loss by disclosing the company name.

Regarding the problem of food loss, it is customary in the retail industry to not accept products that have passed the expiration date of more than one-third, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is requesting a review.

We also investigated this practice and published the names of 121 of the 142 companies that reviewed it and agreed.
