First look at the total GDP

"Su Daqiang" continues to chase after "Cantonese boss"

From the perspective of total GDP, Guangdong still tops the list, firmly occupying the position of the “biggest Guangdong”.

Data show that the economic growth rate of Guangdong in the first three quarters turned from negative to positive. The GDP of the first three quarters was 7,839.707 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.7%.

Jiangsu still ranks second in the country, with a GDP of 7380.88 billion yuan in the first three quarters, a year-on-year increase of 2.5%.

It is worth noting that the unwilling "Su Daqiang" achieved positive economic growth in the first half of the year, so the gap with the "Boss of Guangdong" has also narrowed.

Data show that the total GDP gap between Jiangsu and Guangdong in the first three quarters of this year was more than 450 billion yuan, while in the same period of 2019, the gap between Jiangsu and Guangdong was more than 570 billion yuan.

"Su Daqiang" can close so many gaps, and the secondary industry has contributed a lot.

The added value of the secondary industry in Jiangsu in the first three quarters was 3193.04 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.0%, while the added value of the secondary industry in Guangdong in the first three quarters was 3,066.55 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.8%.

As a major foreign trade province, Guangdong is obviously more affected by the sluggish external demand. Guangdong's total import and export of goods in the first three quarters fell by 1.6% year-on-year, while Jiangsu's total import and export of goods in the first three quarters increased by 0.8% year-on-year, and the growth rate turned positive for the first time this year.

Shandong still ranks third. The province's GDP in the first three quarters was 5,218,601 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.9%.

Zhejiang still ranks fourth, with the province's GDP in the first three quarters of 4,582.6 billion yuan, an increase of 2.3% year-on-year.

Hubei overtakes Anhui

From the perspective of the top 10 GDP, Hubei's GDP in the first half of the year fell by 19.3% year-on-year, and its ranking dropped from the seventh place at the end of 2019 to the tenth place in the first half of the year. It was overtaken by Fujian, Hunan and Anhui.

However, Hubei, who was unwilling to catch up, surpassed Anhui in a quarter.

The data shows that Hubei’s regional GDP in the first three quarters was 297.942 billion yuan. Although it was down 10.4% year-on-year, the decline narrowed by 8.9 percentage points compared with the first half of the year. The total GDP exceeded that of Anhui (276.81 billion yuan).

In the words of the Hubei Bureau of Statistics, Hubei’s economic development went from “press pause” in the first quarter to “restart and resume” in the second quarter to “steady recovery” in the third quarter, and the province’s economy continued to recover.
